Avril Lavigne made her TikTok debut on Monday (June 21) with the ultimate remake of her 2002 breakthrough single “Sk8er Boi.” And, because it was national Go Skateboarding Day, she invited O.G. Chairman of the Board, legendary skater Tony Hawk, along for the ride.
Lavigne, rocking her signature early career look — a black T-shirt, black shorts and a striped tie — sang along to the pop hit until it hit the chorus, at which point the camera zoomed into her tie to reveal Hawk. Tony, also doing the tee and tie thing, amiably ripped some tricks on her backyard half-pipe.
Over on her Instagram, Lavigne, 36, hyped the TikTok clip by sharing some behind-the-scenes snaps with Hawk, 53, including one in which they are poised at the top of the slime green half-pipe preparing to drop in. Hopefully it went better than her slip and trip on her ramp from May, in which she just had to laugh at herself when she took a hard fall.
“Hope this makes you laugh as hard as it’s made my friends and I laugh all week,” she captioned the clip. “That’s what I get for sk8ing in my slippers and dress.”
Back in December, Lavigne hit the studio with frequent recent collaborator Mod Sun and Machine Gun Kelly, sparking speculation that the trio were working on new music. “So are we ready for new music in the new year or what? Lemme know…..[lightning bolt emoji],” she captioned the pics. Lavigne has been giving occasional updates about the sessions for the follow-up to her emotional 2019 album Head Above Water.
