Dami Im, the chart-topping Australian singer and songwriter who came within a whisker of winning the Eurovision Song Contest, has a new record deal.
South Korea-born, Queensland-raised Im has signed with ABC Music ahead of a new album release, scheduled for 2021.
But first, Im and ABC Music will release the single and music video for “Paper Dragon” on Sept. 18, with four national tour dates announced in support.
At ABC Music, Im joins a roster that includes Tim Rogers, Mojo Juju, Chris Lilley, Lee Kernaghan, Sara Storer, The Wiggles and more.
The new single “marks the beginning of the most exciting and authentic chapter in my career and it deserves the best partner to take it out into the world,” Im says in a statement. “I’m feeling the most creative and free right now and I’m thrilled to be working with the team at ABC Music who truly support my vision as an artist.”
Im captured the hearts of a nation when she won The X Factor Australia back in 2013.
Her self-titled debut album and first single “Alive” (via Sony Music) both debuted at No. 1 on the national ARIA charts, and she went on to release three warmly-received studio albums. In 2016, Im led Australia to a No. 2 finish (with 511 points) at Eurovision with her song “Sound of Silence”.
On Thursday (Sept. 1), ABC Music was shortlisted for Independent Label Of The Year Award at the 2020 AIR Awards, alongside Spinning Top Records, Elefant Traks, I Oh You and Sweat It Out.
Launched in 1974, the indie label operates as a subsidiary of Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
