Listen, life is complicated and sometimes you just need to dance it out. And cry it out. At the same damn time.
In her new single “Envious,” Aluna tackles the experience of grappling with a sticky ball of emotion, singing about being sad, being mad and how’s its been to not make her envious, as she’s cruel when she sees red. Maybe you can relate.
“I think people really need this song right now because I believe it’s my best ‘cry dance’ song; a style I coined to describe that exquisite feeling when all your emotions are released while dancing so you cry at the same time,” Aluna says in a statement. “I feel like in these times people need that at least once a day!”
Featuring a crew of dancers in straightjackets and Aluna stumbling onto a raging dance party through a tiny door, Alice In Wonderland-style, the video is a showcase for the the breezy house track with a funk bassline and memorable melody.
“Envious” is the fourth single from Aluna’s forthcoming debut solo album Renaissance, out Aug. 28 via Mad Decent.
