In the ad, titled “The Middle,” Springsteen drives a Jeep through snow-lined streets, featuring sweeping footage of great expanses of America’s heartland. The “Born in the USA” singer is heard giving a compelling message of hope and unity in the voiceover, evoking Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech as he declared, “We can make it to the mountaintop, through the desert, and we will cross this divide. Our light has always found its way through the darkness and there’s hope on the road up ahead.” The clip ends with a map of the country with the words, “To the ReUnited States of America.”
TMZ broke and Billboard confirmed the news of Springsteen’s November arrest.
A National Park Service spokesperson said in a statement that the singer “was cooperative throughout the process.” According to the NPS, Springsteen received three citations: DWI, reckless driving, and consuming alcohol in an enclosed area.
Billboard has reached out to Springsteen for comment.
