John Legend capped the second night of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday (Aug. 18) with a stirring performance of his recent ballad “Never Break.”
Sitting solo at a Yamaha grand piano on an at-first otherwise empty stage, Legend delivered an impassioned rendition of the Bigger Love anthem of perseverance, with backing singers gradually filing in behind him to offer support.
The performance capped a Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention that saw Joe Biden officially nominated as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming 2020 presidential election. The evening also featured speeches from former president Bill Clinton and 2004 Democratic candidate John Kerry, as well as a long spotlight feature on Biden’s wife Jill, who also gave an emotional speech in support of her husband.
The Democratic National Convention continues Wednesday night (Aug. 19), with expected performances from Billie Eilish and Jennifer Hudson.
