Just hours after the live debut of their new duet at Thursday night’s (Sept. 16) ACM Awards, Keith Urban and P!nk dropped the video for their duet “One Too Many,” in which there is, literally an ocean between them. The visual for the country ballad finds Urban adrift at sea on a couch after waking up from a hard night of drinking, while P!nk stares out at the water from the shore.
The pair blend their voices perfectly from afar, as Urban strums his guitar (and uses it as a paddle) and P!nk ticks off her list of regrets while a series of other marooned couples socially distance on their floating couches. There’s a tricky bit where Keith manages to rip off an electric guitar solo while standing on the La-Z-Boy, but the pair never end up connecting.
And there’s a good reason. In a press release about the song, Urban explained that the track was originally written as a duet and he “couldn’t have pictured anyone else’s voice” on it. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the singers had to piece together the recording from incredibly distanced spots, P!nk in Los Angeles and Urban in Sydney, where each filmed their respective portions of the visual as well.
“I’ve always loved P!nk’s voice,” Urban said in the statement. “But her artistry and her multi-faceted ability to create, and her God-given talent, truly makes her one of the greatest voices of our time.” The song will appear on Urban’s 10th studio album, The Speed of Now Part 1.
