What better way to celebrate Sunday’s blow-out Super Bowl LV than a thrash through Metallica‘s iconic 1991 rocker “Enter Sandman?” The Bay Area legends plugged in on Sunday night (Feb. 7) on a post-game Late Show, where they burned through the song on a stage decorated with speaker cabinets from dozens of iconic tour dates and special gigs of yesteryear.

Whether you were celebrating with Tom Tampa Bay or drowning your sorrows over Patrick and the Chiefs’ epic meltdown, James Hetfield and the gang had what you needed in their late night return to form after a long pandemic layoff. The thundering track unfolded in front of a wall of amps from throughout the group’s career, including one from Metallica Night at AT&T Stadium in San Francisco (May 2, 2015), another from the NBA Finals Game 3 at Oracle Arena in Oakland (June 5, 2019), as well as a speaker from the Metallica 30th Anniversary Celebration in San Francisco (Dec 5, 7 and 9, 2011), a “Racing Stripe M” from the St. Anger Tour (2003-2004) and “Vulturus” from the Death Magnetic Tour (2008-2010), among others.
