Gaga could make her first performance at the VMAs in seven years even more memorable if she brought out Ariana Grande, whom she’s tied with for most VMA nominations this year with nine each. Considering seven of their individual nods are directly from their “Rain On Me” collaboration off Gaga’s No. 1 album Chromatica, those two would make quite the splash if they made it rain on stage.
Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift would also be great additions since they’re nominated as both artists and directors. Two of the biggest pop stars have the potential to make VMA history by winning best direction for their own music video (“Xanny” and “The Man,” respectively) without a co-director, which has only happened twice before.
Chloe x Halle know how to think outside of the backyard the R&B duo has been using for their recent epic at-home performances, so the Barclays Center is their oyster to bring Ungodly Hour to life. Since J Balvin is already set to perform, the Black Eyed Peas could join him on stage for “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life),” which is currently nominated for best collaboration.
The 2020 MTV VMAs will air live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. EST.
